Last week’s Feel Good Friday focused on Fathom Impact Travel in the Dominican Republic and Cuba. But, what if you are not able to break away from your daily responsibilities long enough to embark on a service or voluntourism trip? It might come as great news to some of you that you can actually donate frequent flyer miles to help those in need. In fact, there are a whole host of organizations that will take those miles off your hands and deliver them to someone that will be eternally grateful for them. A few are listed below.

Aeroplan Beyond Miles

Aeroplan operates a Charitable Pooling Program to assist individuals and organizations that are looking to have a positive impact on their local community. Donations of miles could be used for a myriad of items like merchandise, car rentals, travel, hotel nights, merchandise or fundraising prizes.

Alaska Airlines Charity Miles Pool

This charity miles program offers Mileage Plan members a unique and meaningful way to support important causes. Miles donated to this program help charities with business travel, accommodation of special organization requests and achievement of the organization’s mission.

American Airlines’ Miles for Kids in Need

American’s Miles for Kids in Need lets you put your AAdvantage miles to good use to support children and families in need. AA supports a variety of child- and family-focused charities, all of which are detailed at American’s Giving homepage, including Miles of Hope, Miles for Kids in Need, and more. For more information, you can also call 1-800-882-8880.

Asia Miles for Charity

With their donations, rewards program members can send aid workers, volunteers, and doctors around the world, or bring elderly relatives closer together. Donate to organizations like: C.A.R.E. Society, which supports seniors who experience loneliness and depression; ORBIS, a global development organization; UNICEF, which improves the lives of children in developing countries; and more.

Delta SkyWish

This program lets you donate miles to whichever charity you choose in its massive database. You can choose a maximum of five charities to be processed in one transaction. Charities involved include Make-A-Wish, Habitat for Humanity, UNICEF, and more.

JetBlue’s True Giving

JetBlue’s True Giving Program directs the extra miles you give away to support education, families, communities, and the environment. Points can be donated locally or globally to causes in the airline’s database.

Lufthansa Miles & More for Charity

By donating your extra Miles & More miles through Lufthansa, you can support a number of causes. For example, you can support SOS Children’s Villages International, an independent social children’s aid organization that stands up for children’s needs and rights.

Of course, this is not an exhaustive list, but it’s a great jumping off point for further research. Mile Donor is a great resource that can help if you aren’t sure which type of organization you want to donate to. The site holds a lot of news and tax information, as well. And if you prefer to donate to a charity directly (rather than through an airline), there are several charities that will accept your frequent flyer miles.
